Gough Whitlam

Published by admin under Aussie icons, Politics

I wasn’t around but sounds like the guy was a true Australian icon.

He led the labor party to victory in 1972 and was ousted in 1975. In fact he was the the first Prime Minister to be dismissed by the Governor General using reserve powers.

Meet Karl Pilkington

Published by admin under Daily, Humour

Nothing terribly Aussie about this but I found it humorous enough to share anyway. Ricky Gervais interviews Karl. Some complex topics, some not so complex opinions.

Published by admin under Aussie icons, Pop Culture

Did you know the first Dunlop Volleys were rolled out in 1939?! They were developed by a then famous Tennis Player by the name of Adrian Quist who got the design idea from a pair of yachting shoes he saw overseas.

Checkout this guy!

Published by admin under Humour

Can you believe he was on Jay Leno in the states being interviewed about his Naval fluff collection?!

I’m still chuckling.

Brisbane, Queensland, AustraliaSo far they’ve been nothing but bloody awesome. Sure there are some different rules. Like, we need to have our cars checked for Queensland standards. Which is really quite bizzare considering once they have undertaken some god awful stringent over the pits type of fine tooth comb inspection, you’re free to let rust to within a inch of it’s life!

Aussie icons

Published by admin under Aussie icons, Pop Culture

I dunno about you guys but when I think of typical ‘Australiana’ I think of the icons or inventions that we seem to be associated with worldwide. Thongs, Hills Hoist, Vegemite, early Holdens, Bondi beach. Fish and chips at the beach, to name but a small fractions of what I consider quintessential Aussie icons.

Don’t forget the dog food

Published by admin under Growing up

We lived near a town called Tarago. Well, we lived 40 minutes on a dirt road from the town. The town itself was home to about 100 people, about 100 dogs, a bowser, a shop and of course a pub. More about Tarago in another post sometime. The daily routine trip to school is the topic of the day.
